My Ada Lovelace...
Monday, March 29, 2010 at 05:55PM
It's a late post, simply because I was occupied with Oxford Twestival when the actual Ada Lovelace day happened. Nonetheless I was planning to post about this lady from quite a while as she is someone I really look up to, someone I do not meet too often but probably more often than many other women I know, and the woman who is always kind and supportive, Amanda Clark!
At first I wanted to post more about her, but I feel it's better to let her speak up. Just so you know Amanda works in Oxford, she is a Mac specialist - an extremely talented one! - and a geek who knows everything about social media events. If you do not know her yet, make sure you follow her on Twitter!
Here is a short interview with Amanda:
Sylwia: How did your adventure with technology start?
Amanda: um BBCB at home, very basic stuff fiddling with the volume on the tape recorder to get the application to load then College for HND Computing, first job looking after some Mac laptops and network for the company that created Mondex.
S: What do you do for living and how did you end up in this job?
A: Mac Support for a publishing company. Umm they hired me to help out upgrading the Macs and then when the Mac Support guy left I offered to replace him
S: You are very active in social media, mainly via twitter - why this platform?
A: Becuase it's me - I like to talk and I can be who I really am
S: How did technology change your life?
A: Umm not sure it has but I love to play with fun gadgets. Ok maybe meeting some amazing people, opened up communication and opportunities and travel I might never have had
S: What are your three favorite gadgets?
A: umm my iPhone 3gs, my Novatel Mifi and my headphonies speaker
S: What would you advice to any girl or a woman planning her career in technology?
A: Go for it, have a laugh, don't be put off by the men - they are just being men. Geeks are now sexy - they are no longer the pasty white nerds that never saw the light of day.
Amanda, if you read this, accept my thank you - I am privileged to know you!
