Blog Action Day is back this year with a new theme: "The Power of We". It's quite interesting to see this topic after having series of conversations about the very same topic with Ulrike Reinhard in Nairobi this summer. Is the web changing the way WE relate to each other? Is the social web changing the way WE advocate good causes? Of course it does. I personally think that it helps us to find the right people faster, share out ideas more effectively and collaborate on a larger scale. Just look at what Twestival managed to achieve!
I am currently working on the future of Barcamp Nonprofits and I cannot help but wonder how much I have learned from the barcampers there. I think the initial core idea still needs a little bit more work - exactly the work on WE of those events, but I am ever so impressed with the passion people bring to barcamp days! I am impressed with their dedication (entire day or work!), ideas (yes, freely shared ideas) and the right balance (no pitches, hopefully!). I have imagined a series of events, others joined me in this dream and WE have all made it happen both in Oxford and London. So...
...just imagine the power of WE behind Oxfam, Avaaz, Mozilla, Greenpeace or Global Voices Online! Imagine the power of your local community. Imagine the power of kids in your local school. Imagine how much good is done on a daily basis right here right now!
So now it's your turn! Imagine a blank wall and a group of people with the power to change the world with one image - what would it be?
Happy Blog Action Day everyone!
